I was august. How could anything take Michael Clayton for best screen play. I was arrogant in thinking Juno couldn’t be that well written, and ladies and gentleman arrogance is the distant cousin of stupid.
I loved Juno, not just for its witty edgy and all round beautiful script. But also those little touches that carry good movies into the category of great movies. Classic’s (well the neo classic - in that it won’t make the ages like Ben Hur, but will be talked about for years. neo classic due to contemporised consideration).
Diablo Cody is not only quiet sexy but she is my age and a genius at capturing the different generations explored in Juno. Yes this movie is about a brash too adult for her own good witty, attractive tom boy who falls pregnant (god I would have loved to have a girlfriend like her when I was in high school not because I was a jock, no, I was considered a weird kid, one that was easy to get on with but weird all the same). But her father and his step wife represent a generation as does Bateman and Gardner. This script handles them all so perfectly.
For example after Juno reveals to her parents the 411 of the situation (ok I’ll stop trying to write in American teenage) they ask her to leave. No yelling blah blah, just leave us to talk about this. The resulting conversation is so god damn funny if you didn’t know that you were watching something special by now it was a smack in the face.
To be honest I knew I had picked wrong after about two scenes of Juno, this script is absolutely kick arse. I have a crush of Diablo Cody!
To inspire me to write this which I have been meaning to do for two weeks now (personal problems that is indicative of the writer) I got hold of the Juno soundtrack and I am reminded of the feeling this movie installed in me. It was a dramatic comedy that made me feel good. Juno’s resolve, her grown up-ness her nascent sis Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Rainn Wilson’s cameo it’s just so fu**ing good. Her parents, her best friend and there are two things that just make this film so amazing.
1. Diablo Cody. I’m a massive fan and going to be looking out for everything she does from now.
2. Ellen Page. Great actress great understanding of her character and stunningly attractive (Reitman chose some great shots of her).
I haven’t mentioned Jason Reitman much but do I need to he’s a great Director he has a golden touch and superb script selection nothing more to say. No this review belongs to Ms Cody and Ms Page and to the writer admitting that he can often be wrong. Juno most deserving of the Oscar it received. Juno a gem of a film.

hahah you said everything and I cannot agree more. Just looove the whole thing.
oh oh ! the Music, you mentioned the soundtrack but didn't really elaborate on it.
The lyrics and feel of the music is wonderful. It's very un-pop (?) can't find the right words but my husband loooves the soundtrack!

I thought Jennifer Garner gave a great performance. She played a minor character so doesn't get much mention in reviews.
