Mr Tza predicts
It’s Oscar time, yay. The back slapping and the magic minute speeches, the “it was an honour to have been nominated” the god awful red carpet fashion show, and of course the awards that, hey, can often be wrong for many reasons. But this year from what I have seen that has earned nominations I feel are well worthy of these nods.
Now before I give you my predictions I will point out that through writing reviews that I have predicted 3 nominations before they were nominated, I am quiet impressed by this as I usually say one day so and so will get an Oscar (example Jim Carey will win one day).
My picks over the months for nominations were Casey Affleck for Jesse James, Javier Barden (I would have said lead not support) and Roger Deakins for Cinematograph.
So enough of my blowing of my horn (a French one) here is Mr Tza’s picks.
Again I lament that I haven’t seen all the films and performances nominated as well New Zealand takes a while to get some films and my download limit maxed early.
Best Picture - No Country for Old Men
- (second place There will be Blood, closely followed by Michael Clayton)
Best Director - Cohen brothers. Not because I think that best picture automatically means best director, but more they have paid their dues. PT Anderson is a master in making and deserves to win for There will be Blood but I don’t think it’s his time, how long did it take Scorsese to win (and I agree with my friend Ollie that Goodfellas is a better film than The Departed).
Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis
- George Clooney in 2nd place very very closely followed by Tommy Lee Jones. (I haven’t seen Sweeny Todd however and don‘t think Viggo deserved a nod)
Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem
- Tom Wilkinson 2nd place.
Best Actress - I have seen none of the films, poor I know but I’ll give it a stab with Marion Cortillard.
Best Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchett
- 2nd Tilda Swinton
Art Direction - I pick the only film out of the list I haven’t seen Sweeny Todd
Best Cinematography - Roger Deakins (Assassination of Jesse James, 2nd No Country)
Best Editing - There will be Blood
- 2nd No Country
Best Writing (adapted) - No Country for Old Men
Best Original writing - Michael Clayton
There they are I haven’t seen all movies from all categories but from what I have seen this what I think.
