Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
It’s a classic. Well it’s not really a classic but in the realms of comedies it is.
With line such as “hey, here’s some advice next time you tell a story. Have point.”
“I’m sorry I’ve never seen a man being picked up by his testacies before” and my personal favourite and a line I’m trying to integrate into my lexicon, “We’ve got more chance of playing pick up sticks with our arse cheeks than getting a flight out of here”.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a piece of comic genius that has stood the test of time. I say this because I have watched it recently and I think I may have fractured ribs laughing at it. From the outset John Candy’s screw job on Steve Martin begins. The stealing of the taxi, the making him pay for the taxi to the motel, the rental car for everything.
I could talk on and on about Planes, Trains but I am going to just touch on a few things and leave it at that.
1. Steve Martin walking through a parking lot using his tie as a scarf/ear muffs. Then the conversation with the receptionist over his car not being there.
2. The argument between Martin and Candy in the motel room.
3. The mess around.
4. The race with Kevin Bacon.
As I was watching this film with my girlfriend we had had far too much wine (I think this could aid the enjoyment of this film) and I stated this was one of the best John Candy films, and probably one of the best Martin films. We both tried to name what we thought were the best Candy films. Planes, Trains is definitely one of them. Uncle Buck is another. Martin defiantly “All of Me”.
So I’ll keep it short and sweet. Plane, Trains and Automobiles is one of those movie we’ve all seen and if you haven’t I say “that’s cucking futs” either or watch it or re-watch it, you tube bits of it what ever just see some of it, it will brighten you’re day, cause even when it’s cloudy the sun can still come through and some times it only takes John Candy and Steve Martin to do it.

Man, we even did it in Screenwriting classes.
Great stuff.
I love 'the mess around' brilliant.
And when the couple is trying to warn them there on the wrong side, and John and Martin think they're drunk.
Love both these guys. Legends.
Classic buddy flick.
