The Bourne Ultimatum
There is a common misconception that quick cuts and fast hand held camera movements a action movie makes. I want to clear all this up now, they don’t, in fact they are the enemy of the action film. A fight scene should be shot using as few amount of cuts as possible, an example of probably the best fight scene ever is Old Boy, hammer vs. gang fight scene. A slow tracking dolly as the fight ensues all action can be seen. The Bourne Ultimatum cut so many time that I felt like I was on acid. I had no idea of who was punching who and how much it hurt them.
Music, very important, but even more important is what the music is put to, you can jazz it up all you like but Jason Borune checking his mail is never going to be exciting.
The car chase, another crucial aspect of any action movie worth a grain of salt. Again this movie sadly lacked a good one, oh they were ok but compared to the first and the best of these films nowhere near as good.
Now it goes like this, original will kick ass so they make a squeal, which will usually be average (apart from GFII) and the third will bring back the winning formula of the first.
This film again fails to do this. Instead opting to blend the first two films together, I mean the scenes with Julia Styles (a poor mans Kirsten Dunst) are remarkable similar to the scenes with Lola. Restaurant to discuss how complicated JB was, her cutting her hair for them to share a moment, I was like “shit, he didn’t tap that ass even after all that history, this was the first bit where being so contrived actually helped it.”
Sadly this film is only worth getting it on DVD I suggest smoking a lot of pot so as it is easier to escape in its absurdity. I paid $18 a ticket and took my girlfriend to this at the end I sat outside with her smoking a ciggie and I confessed “the best part of that film was the ending music”. She then asked me what makes a good action film and I pretty much told her what I just said. She asked me if I would like to make an action film “hell yeah” I replied, then she asked me who made good action films and this who I think.
Tony Scott, look no further, he is the master of the action film.
An unworthy ending for such a great start, even if they did totally kill the novel (the Bourne Identity is the best spy book I have ever read)
Action Film 6.5/10

I'm already disaapointed and have to agree with you completely... thanks for the head's up, I will wait for the DVD now...what a dissapointment to have coped out into that 24-style crap...
...I was excited when I discovered that Julia Styles was the leading lady, as I like her work and think she is 'solid' enough in character to place opposite Damon, now, after you comments, I will be watching carefully at the interplay...

Did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would...I did like the first 2 and I love the books (knew to watch the films in a disassociative manner though).
Should have waited for the DVD.
