The Marine.
Ok with a name “The Marine” and the head line star being John Cena from WWE fame you really can’t go in expecting much, and if you go into this film with this attitude you won’t be disappointed.
This movie even when examined under my action movie rating system (in that I make many allowances for poor plot, half ass acting etc) I still deem this to be a sub-par excuse for an action movie.
When a wrestler is the star I want hand to hand fighting in which the wrestler throws in his trade mark moves. I was desperately waiting for Cena to F.U a hench-man onto a spike or fence or just anything sharp, but no, all I got one a massive choke slam and a few beefy clothes lines.
The car chase a important ingredient in action movies was lacking though I am a big fan of the cut away to the changing of gears The Marine thrashed this quick almost hip-hop cut, now I can’t built cars but I swear that John Cena changed into fourth at least three times.
Robert Patrick playing the bad guy was actually quiet good not that he benefited from the hackneyed script he just played his part well. Anthony Ray was a surprise (he is a minor celebrity in New Zealand) but over all he was average.
Now in saying all this if you are in need of a blowing up, gun shooting movie (if you are 13 at heart) then you will like this film. If you love John Cena (I do) then you will like this film.
