The Outlaw Josey Wales
“Whipped them again Josey, whipped them again”.
The blue coat killer Josey Wales side kick would laugh this every time Josey out smarted his chases. I was made to watch this film by my father when I was a young kid, in film school I presented it as a film to show my class as I though it is the best western ever made.
At 4 in the morning I was summoned to the hospital to be with my Grandfather for his last hours, flying along the motorway at 150kmh to be there I arrived to my mother to tell me that had been told that Grand dad would not see another morning, as the sun crawled over the hills I turned to my mother and pointed out that he was here for another day, “whipped them again Grand-dad I said to my mother. For the next four days my Grand-father continued to whip them till like Josey his pursuers caught up with him.
Clint Eastwood is a master director. His portrayal of Josey as a man refusing to surrender is the epitome of the type of character I love. The lone man who refuses to lie down, he will fight till he has no breath in his body, he is the type of man I wish that one day I could be.
This film is riddled with social commentary of the times (the Vietnam war was waging at the time of its making) and as Josey pleads with the Indians to let him and his rag tag bunch of follows to live in peace on there land we see that this man of war was only ever after one thing, peace.
Another must see, another film that is cemented in my top ten.

Film & TV on DVD
Fantastic dialogue, a fine blend of cultural humor and the Chief rules....a classic that stands alongside Clints best as Director and actor.
